Well hello there...

Here are my ramblings about nothing in particular. You're about to be bored by notes and pix on my obsessions with and addictions to op shopping, crochet, polka dots, beads, vintage fabric or other treasures. Stay a while and enjoy and come back sometime.

broken promises

After an indulgent trip to the local woollen mills' factory outlet a couple of months ago I promised to myself that I wouldn't go back until I'd completed the projects that I'd bought the wool for. Well that promise didn't last long and I accidentally found myself back at the woollen mills this week to hunt out a "couple of balls of wool". Yeah, that's what happened last time I went there for "a ball of wool" and came out with a massive bag of wool. You see you can't just buy a ball of wool. It's impossible. You have to buy bags of the stuff as the prices are so cheap and there is definitely no guarantee that they will be there next time you go back there because it's the factory outlet kind of thing. Sooooo I broke that promise to myself and feel quite good about it really. I only have one project to go in the previously purchased bunch, so it's not that bad..........is it? So my next project is to get this ripple crochet thing under control. Under the inspirational guidance of Lucy from Attic24 I am attempting a ripple cushion...in a feast of colours of course as if you have lots of colours, then it's bound to match something in your house. In the meantime, here is a pic of the "ball of wool" that I bought at the woollen mills the other day.

fridayitis

It's official....it's Friday & it doesn't seem to be ending. I seriously thought the work day was over ages ago and looked at the clock for confirmation of the hometime feeling but it was ONLY 4 O'CLOCK! Can you believe that? I definitely couldn't and am still trying to get over it. Anyway, really all I want to do is go home and cosy up on our new deck being surrounded by our lovely new green paint and.........wait for it..........knit. Yep, have almost finished my first ever grown up knitting project. It's a cardigan of sorts I guess. All the other knitting projects of mine were completed when I was way under the age of 10. These exciting and daring items included pot holders, clothes hanger covers and scarves. As you can tell by the extensive list of completed projects I totally had rectangles and squares under control. This cardigan I'm knitting now is shaped - and probably not quite the shape that it should be, but with a bit of creative sewing I should be fine. Here goes...

time to flee to acapulco...

I love a bit of colour and very much love tea, so it is time to call my favourite cup into action. I bought this in an op shop for $2....can you believe that? How could they possibly think that such a thing would be worth so little? I was stunned and bought it with a rather large cheesy happy grin and have been grinning ever since. I would love to collect more of this Villeroy & Boch range, but due to a lifetime of PFC (personal financial crisis) I am unable to indulge.

a treasure

Just had to share this with you. Found this kitchen dresser at the op shop. I lerve it! And the best this about it was that it only cost me $20. It's now in the bead shop and fits in rather nicely with the pretty much "junk shop" theme of the shop.

Did a bit of spontaneous op shopping when I should have been opening my bead store early...ahhh but who can resist the urge of what finds may lay behind those op shop doors? Not me, even the added hassle of popping coins into the parking meter didn't deter me. I'm on the hunt for embroidered napkins for a little cafe project that is forming. I came out of the op shop with no napkins, but a street directory, a scarf, a jumper and this groovy wooden bead handbag. Not sure whether I should chop it up for the beads, or just enjoy it as it is. Perhaps it will be a matter of giving it a road test and if it doesn't work then it will end up as beads...kind of like being sent to the abattoir isn't it?
